Synthpop exploded in the late 1970s and dominated much of the 1980s, transforming pop music with the use of synthesizers, drum machines and futuristic electronic sounds. Inspired by pioneering acts like Kraftwerk, the genre evolved into a worldwide phenomenon thanks to iconic bands including Depeche Mode, The Human League, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Erasure, Soft Cell, OMD, Yazoo and Eurythmics. Their unforgettable melodies, innovative production and timeless anthems such as Don’t You Want Me, Blue Monday, West End Girls, Just Can’t Get Enough and Tainted Love defined a generation and continue to fill dancefloors around the world, proving that the unmistakable sound of ’80s synthpop is as influential and loved today as ever.
